5May端午の節句tangonosekku

Today is a fine day☀with a moderate temperature.
The coming 5 May is the Japanese traditional celebration day(bank holiday) for boys.
Congratulations to all the boys in the world.☀
I checked Wikipedia about the origin!
hey, actually it originally rooted from chinese custom to wear medical hurbs such as 'shoubu'菖蒲-Acorus calamus or blue flag iris-on the body to avoid evilness and diseases on 5 May.
It turned to become a celebration

day for boys in Japan because of the similarity of the sounds between a blue flag iris called 'shoubu' in Japanese and a battle also called 'shoubu' in Japanese. Then, it appears to turn to be deemed as a day
of celebration for boys where boys are to be cheered in amours and swords.
According to the original meaning, it seems to me that leaves of blue flagan iris are to be decolated
at house doors&gates to avoid evilness,to be used in the baths from the reasons of their medical effects
and to be tied around children's heads. My memory of 5 May is that my mother tied blue flag iris leaves around my heads after she dipped them in the hot water in the bath. I love the smell of the leaves of blue flag iris that is strong enough to make me believe in its medical effects.
